We are excited to share updates on our ongoing World Menstrual Hygiene Campaign, aimed at raising awareness and advocating for menstrual health and hygiene for all, especially women and girls with disabilities.

Media Engagement at Redeemer Radio Network (RRN)

Our first advocacy and awareness-raising campaign kicked off with a media engagement at Redeemer Radio Network 92.5FM on their Morning News and Current Affairs Show – Morning Tea – on the 23rd of May, 2024. Representing Shalom Rescue Foundation, Mr. Samuel Borbor (Programs Coordinator) and Miss Wulamatu Samura (V4J School Club facilitator) were the studio guests.

  • Mr. Samuel Borbor discussed our prevention and intervention programs, highlighting the transformative impact we have had over the years. He spoke about our efforts in supporting children and adolescent girls who are survivors of sexual and domestic abuse, abandonment, and child prostitution. He also touched on our scholarship programs and placement initiatives.
  • Miss Wulamatu Samura addressed issues of menstrual hygiene, emphasizing our work in assisting vulnerable children, particularly women and girls with disabilities. Her insights shed light on the importance of menstrual health and the specific challenges faced by these groups.

The feedback from this session was overwhelmingly positive. Listeners found the program both educative and interactive, highlighting the effectiveness of our advocacy efforts. This program was made possible thanks to our long-standing partnership with Redeemer Radio Network and the generous sponsorship of the Mental Health Coalition Sierra Leone.

Sensitization at Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG)

On the 24th of May, we visited one of Freetown’s leading secondary schools, the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (JSS). Here, we conducted a sensitization session on menstrual hygiene with the students.

Using visual aids and flyers, we were able to effectively communicate important messages about menstrual hygiene. The session was designed to be informative and engaging, ensuring that the students received accurate and helpful information.

In addition to the sensitization session, we made a donation of sanitary pads to the school. This donation aims to support the students in managing their menstruation with dignity and ease. The staff and pupils expressed their gratitude for our efforts and contributions.

We are proud of the progress made so far in our World Menstrual Hygiene Campaign and are committed to continuing our efforts to support menstrual health and hygiene education. Stay tuned for more updates and activities as we strive to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all women and girls.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
