On June 16, 2024, Shalom Rescue Foundation joined the rest of Africa in celebrating the Day of the African Child, a significant event dedicated to recognizing the rights of African children and improving their lives. This year’s theme, ‘Education for all children in Africa: the time is now’, resonated deeply with our mission to support and uplift the younger generation.
A Heartfelt Celebration at Jarwlee-Lewis Nursery and Preparatory School
In line with our commitment to this year’s theme, Shalom Rescue Foundation marked the day by organizing a special event at Jarwlee-Lewis Nursery and Preparatory School. Our team spent the day engaging with the pupils, sharing food, and spreading joy. The event was not just a celebration but also a reminder of the importance of providing every child with access to quality education and basic necessities.
Our Mission and Activities
At Shalom Rescue Foundation, we are dedicated to meeting the needs of children and young people who are at risk, sexually assaulted, involved in prostitution, neglected, and/or homeless. Our comprehensive approach focuses on the following:
- Prevention: We work tirelessly to prevent abuse and exploitation through community outreach and sensitization programs. By raising awareness and educating the public, we aim to create a safer environment for all children.
- Intervention: When children and young people are in immediate danger, we intervene to provide them with the protection and support they need. Our team is trained to handle crisis situations with compassion and efficiency.
- Placement: For children who cannot return to their homes, we offer safe and nurturing placements. We work with foster families and other care providers to ensure each child has a stable and loving environment.
- Treatment: Survivors of abuse receive specialized treatment to help them heal and recover. Our programs are designed to address the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of each child, allowing them to heal at their own pace and rebuild their lives.
Our Impact on the Day of the African Child
- Sharing Meals: We provided nutritious meals to the pupils, ensuring they had a memorable and joyful day. This act of kindness highlighted the importance of proper nutrition in a child’s education and overall well-being.
- Educational Support: In addition to the meals, we discussed the significance of education with the pupils, encouraging them to stay focused on their studies and strive for excellence. We also interacted with teachers and school administrators to understand the challenges they face and explore ways we can offer further support.
- Community Engagement: The event was an opportunity to engage with the local community and raise awareness about the crucial role education plays in the development of children. We encouraged parents and guardians to prioritize education and support their children’s academic journeys.
Our Ongoing Commitment
Our programs and services help those entrusted in our care to heal at their own pace and live a life they deserve: one filled with love in an environment of compassion and kindness. This event is just one example of our ongoing efforts to support education and well-being in our community. We believe that every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams.
As we continue our work, we invite you to join us in our mission. Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word about our initiatives, your support can help us reach more children and make a significant difference in their lives.
